How to Convert Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to PDF (Without Changing the Layout)

Furigana Maker only accepts PDF files. If your document is in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, convert it to PDF first, then upload it. Three steps, no extra software needed.

Microsoft Word

  1. Open the file
Open the Word document you want to add furigana to
  2. File → Save As / Export
From the File menu, choose "Save As" (or "Export")
  3. Set the file type to "PDF"
    Choose PDF (*.pdf) and save

Microsoft Excel

  1. Open the file
Open the Excel file you want to add furigana to
  2. File → Save As / Export
From the File menu, choose "Save As" (or "Export")
  3. Set the file type to "PDF"
    Choose PDF (*.pdf) and save

💡 Tip: setting the print area before saving as PDF lets you export just the part you need.

Microsoft PowerPoint

  1. Open the file
Open the PowerPoint file you want to add furigana to
  2. File → Save As / Export
From the File menu, choose "Save As" (or "Export")
  3. Set the file type to "PDF"
    Choose PDF (*.pdf) and save

Scanned or photographed pages (no text data)

A scanned image or screenshot saved as PDF has no text data in it, so furigana can't be added directly. Run OCR (text recognition) first using Google Chrome:

  1. Open the PDF in Google Chrome
  2. Press Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P) to open the print dialog
  3. Set the destination to "Save as PDF"
  4. Click Save to create the new PDF
  5. Upload the saved PDF to Furigana Maker

※ Chrome automatically performs text recognition, producing a PDF that contains real text data.

Documents photographed on iPhone / iPad

How to turn a photo of a document (worksheet, textbook page, etc.) taken with an iPhone or iPad into a text-recognized PDF.

  3. Choose "Scan Documents"
  4. Photograph the document (text is recognized automatically)
  5. Tap Save
  6. Tap the share icon → "Send a Copy" → choose PDF
  7. Save the PDF to Files
  8. Upload the saved PDF to Furigana Maker

Once you have a PDF, just open it in Furigana Maker!
